After we realized that Purrseidon liked water and loved being wet, I started to joke about her being a Labrador Retriever in Kitty costume … Well, I just found this gif and I’ve changed my mind … she would love to snooze in the sun awhile she floated along in the waves … she must actually be an otter!

She is an odd kitten/cat to live with. We grabbed her off the street (she was born to a feral mother) and 4 weeks old, when a dog was trying to shake her to death and often wonder if her love for water is natural for her or if she never learned how a cat is expected to behave as a baby.

It is difficult to share information about a kitten who loves water and water sports more than I do. I apologize for the slight bit of sarcasm … in ‘real life’ I’m asking Purrseidon, “Are you really, really sure that’s what you want?” Then, shaking my head when she insists.

Interesting name for a cat. Can’t stop thinking that when she goes swimming and gets broadsided by a wave, Gene Hackman and Ernest Borgnine will be inside fighting over how to escape.
LikeLiked by 1 person
She doesn’t particularly like the shore because of the lapping tide, and we only take her to the beach when the waves are relatively calm. As she gets better, perhaps we’ll take her out in larger waves.

I have never tried habanero on ground hogs, but it’s worth a try – their anatomy is closer to a squirrel’s than a birds… actually, habanero is good for birds because the hot pepper kills worms, etc.

Mr. M keeps trying to tell/show Purr how to be a proper cat and we keep telling her she is one… I think she has a unique definition of what a cat it. A friend of mine needs to lock the bathroom door to keep her Bengals out of the tub/shower, and I have heard that breed loves water, like Purr…. We’ve often looked at her dark portions and wondered if one of her ancestors was a Bengal.
We know which feral her mother was and that her littermate apparently loved water, too (she drown when she was 4 weeks old), which was a motivator for us to grab Purr 2 weeks before we’d planned.

Over the years, we’ve lost many pets, but the one I miss the most is Rom. We lost him just a before we sold our house and moved aboard EvenStar to take a sailing sabbatical…. I thought of Rom a lot and imagined how he would have liked living aboard, so when we resettled back on land, I started writing the Sea Purrector series. Thus, Xander de Hunter is based on Rom, and the Siamese on each cover is Rom…. Xander’s boat, Whispurring Winds is just like EvenStar.

I think we’ll miss our pets no matter what. We had adopted/rescued a kitten and she died within a weeks time. She wasn’t old enough to be flea dipped and what do they do they flea dip her. I think that’s what caused her death but I’m not sure.

For certain, when she was 4 weeks old, and we named her, we had no idea that she’d grow up to love water. Who would expect a cat to do that?!? Purr was born feral, under the neighbor’s porch, and we were planning on claiming her when she was 6 weeks old, but then a littermate drown in a puddle, and a dog managed to grab Purr and was shaking her…. Bottom line, she became a housecat 2 weeks early. At the time, the kids were studying Greek mythology. Somehow, between all those factors, the name Purrseidon stuck.
