We do not declaw, but we have used glue on claw caps to protect furniture while the cat is learning to limit clawing to tree trunks (We also have a chunk of tree trunk inside, which we use as a clawing post, so our cats don’t get confused. I hope you find this info-graphic about why cats need their claws useful.

I declawed two cats when I was in my 20s – before I understood what declawing was. Since then I have never declawed again and actively speak out against it. I have adopted declawed cats, but it is something I don’t do – despite the scars I carry!!!

I’ve got a few scars, too, but I would never trade them for the alternative. IMHO, if humans realized exactly what the surgery involved, I don’t think many would – even fewer would if they had the equivalent surgery that they wanted to do to their pet.

Declawing is wrong!
Mum has bought me a cat scratch lounger, which I love. I also love my tall cat tree. I enjoy sharpening my claws on them and hardly ever scratch the furniture now!

The main claw issues we have come from Saphera … dogs can not retract their claws, yet I’ve never heard of anyone suggesting that a dog needed to be declawed.

I’m learning so much here. I didn’t know this. It makes sense though.
Have a fabulous day. ☺

Declawing is illegal in the UK, I’m pleased to say. Frankly, if you don’t want your furniture/walls scratched, don’t have a cat. Simple!

That sounds like an admirable solution.

Declawing should be illegal everywhere. I cat sit for 2 cats that had tendon cuts so they wouldn’t scratch ( their previous owner had it done), I think this is just as bad.

Good grief, I’d never heard of cut tendons! What kind of veterinarian came up that that ‘solution’?!?

We also find that claws are useful when we start to slide off the humans. ;D – Snoops and Kommando

I have noticed that! … Car seats, during abrupt lane changes, etc., too. 😉
