The Swiss / Gun Control

“Switzerland issues firearms to adult men and provides training in their use…”

“Switzerland provides each of its citizens a sig550 assault rifle and provides training in use of this weapon….”50fdc7ebe8fe67e072954034a596c840

“Switzerland has the lowest gun-related crime rate in the civilized world.”

As per Snopes, this is all true!

SO IF weapons = low crime, WHY do Obama and Hillary want Gun Control??? …. The answer I think of is horrifying…

      1. Japanese did not attack US because they had no tactical bases from the West to the East Coast to support their raids. They hadn’t the needed technique to long raids of their airplanes. The fear of americans with weapons is (sorry to say that) a urban legend.
Please, note that Switzerland has virtually no army. In fact, the professional soldiers constitute about 5% of the military forces (4.300 soldiers) while the rest (135.000) are conscripts or volunteers aged 19 to 34 (in some cases up to 50) for a certain task or period of the year. Women are 1000 volunteers. Less than 200 operational jet-fighters.
In Swiss it is forbidden to have at home and to wear freely arms, guns, revolvers, etc. without legal authorisation.

      2. For years, I’ve heard that every Swiss citizen (male and female) spends at least 2 years in their military (age 18-20), then keeps the weapon they were issued, thus practically all of their adult population is armed and/or part of their ‘reserves’.
Do you know if that is accurate or another urban legend?

      3. Not true. The volunteers will be in force for two years totally, something like a month per year, from the age of 19 to 34. Only authorized persons, as well as the regular soldiers, policemen etc., can take weapons with them, but they cannot wear them if there is no specific need to protect and serve (for example, against terrorism). In the next two years the Swiss government will decrease the operational jet-fighters from 200 to 2 (yes, two!) because they cost too much!

      4. Good to know! You live MUCH closer to this than I do, so it’s no wonder you know the actual way they’ve set things up. Thanks for the information.
BTW, I hope that the drastic reduction doesn’t adversely affect their peace.

      1. I do NOT want to fight, but IF someone brings the fight to me, I want to be able to defend myself.
I don’t have a gun and don’t actually want one, but I’m armed with wasp and hornet spray, which is supposedly better than mace. For certain, it has a better range. And it’s good for stinging insects, too!

      2. MOL We have some of dat spray too. Mace sprays are no longer really mace but pepper. And they’re not effective at all. Mommy says she’s too old to want to fight, but would never back down from one. Let’s purray we don’t have to.

        Luv ya’
