Chewy’s Zignature Duck Limited Ingredient Dog Food

I think Zignature Duck Limited Ingredient Dog Food is Saphera’s favorite food yet!

She was so excited about doing the review that it took all of us to get her to pose. (She also ate  whole 2 cans of this pate in under 3 minutes!) Apparently, she likes duck… I think this was the first time she had ever tasted it.IMG_20170819_185036

After gulping the two cans down, she pranced  through the yard spinning and head bobbing, as if celebrating a good meal.

Dogs are carnivores by nature, so a meat-based diet is good for them This fact goes against what I was told years and years ago, which was basically, “find the dry food with the least protein” … the individual who told me that has had many other ‘bits of wisdom’ disproved.  In actuality, dog’s teeth, their digestive systems and even their behavior confirms that they, like cats, are carnivores.  Zignature Duck Limited Ingredient Dog Food,  is made in the United States and delivers a complete, balanced diet for all sizes and breeds of dogs….  meat is the first ingredient on the label.IMG_20170819_185146

  • Free of the most common potential canine allergens: corn, wheat, soy, dairy, and chicken
  • Nutritionally correct ratio of fruits and vegetables rounds out the recipe with powerful antioxidants, and fiber-rich low glycemic carbohydrates

While there is no corn, no wheat, nor soy  Zignature Duck Limited Ingredient Dog Food  is a proper nutritional blend and they do include some legumes as well as a few fruits and vegetables. Best of all, it works for Saphera’s limited ingredient / grain-free, /gluten-free diet. (That said, after gulping down those two cans, and while prancing and spinning ,she let out some  ‘wind’, which may or may not have been due to the legumes, so if/when you get some for your favorite dog, you might want to let them outside for a short while after eating… or perhaps set up your own tent as a dinning area… I shall quickly add that we did NOT do the test outside due to gas – Saphera, Purrseidon and Master Munchkin had set the tent up and were already playing there when I realized I needed photos.)IMG_20170819_185222

Taste of the Wild Wetlands

Saphera was so excited about the scent of Taste of the Wild Wetlands that most of her photos were a blur +she ate the chunks and gravy before we could get a photo of them….Believe it or not, we even tried giving her two cans in hopes she would be calmer for the second… that plan didn’t work, either. I didn’t think you’d want a photo of the sparkling clean bowl after she licked it… Chewy’s ad says, “What do dogs love more than the great taste of fowl?” and judging by the shine of that empty bowl, they’re correct.20170625_142921.jpg

Taste of the Wild Wetlands is a blend of duck, chicken, quail and turkey. Plus, it is grain-free , which is what Saphera’s diet requires.

.As per Chewy’s ad, the Key Benefits are:

Grain-free diet with duck, roasted quail and smoked turkey offers a taste sensation for even the most finicky dogs

Complete and balanced formula can also be fed as your pet’s sole diet

Supplemented with vegetables and fruits, this formula delivers antioxidants to help give your furry friend a healthy lifestyle

20170625_142950Formula provides an optimal amino acid profile

Made right here in the USA! …. Made in the USA… that is very important to me because I trust food that is processed here not to have contaminants.

Nulo Limited Ingredient Diet Grain-Free Adult Lamb & Potato

20170418_125209 Sahara loved Nulo Limited Ingredient Diet Grain-Free Adult Lamb & Potato.   The 12.5 ounce cans were so jam packed that we had to use a butter knife to get it all out and it nearly filled a normal sized plate. Though you can’t see that in the photos with Saphera, since you-know-who nearly inhaled it.

Fortunately, we took a photo of it  (see below) of it on the plate before giving it to her!20170418_125223

Mr. M checked out what she was eating, which made her gulp faster. (Don’t want to share with the cat, you know….  Purrseidon was taking a nap when we opened the can and by the time she realized there was a taste-test going on, Sahara had cleaned her plate AND the floor. Nope, not even a taste for either of the cats.)20170410_111224

Lamb & Potato seemed appropriate for Easter. Saphera normally eats (loves) sweet potatoes, but we rarely give her regular potatoes and she had never had lamb. But, as I said, she virtually inhaled the food. Nulo Limited Ingredient Diet Grain-Free Adult Lamb & Potato is fine for all breeds/sizes of dogs and has no grains (corn, wheat, soy), no artificial colors and no preservatives, so it was perfect for Saphera’s diet. AND it is made in the USA, so we didn’t need to worry about pollutants from other countries. 20170418_125138

The 5 key ingredients are: lamb, potatoes, sunflower oil, guar gum and carrageenan. Don’t know about you, but I didn’t have a clue what those last two were. SO, I googled them. Guar gum “is a fiber from the seed of the guar plant. Guar gum is used as a laxative. It is also used for treating diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), obesity, and diabetes; for reducing cholesterol; and for preventing atherosclerosis.” Carrageenan “is extracted from red edible seaweeds. They are widely used in the food industry, for their gelling, thickening, and stabilizing properties.” (Dare I suspect this is why a butter knife was needed to get it out of the can?)Disclaimer: As members of Chewy‘s Blogger Outreach Program, we received product for free in exchange for our fair and honest review. Victor Super Premium Dog Food

Saphera loved Victor Super Premium Dog Food. Purrseidon helped take photos, since that is the only aspect of this review she was allowed to participate in. “She was not happy, since she thinking she should be allowed to test all reviewed items…. (Mr. M says the box was up to Chewy’s primo standards.)20170313_202924
Getting back to Victor Super Premium Dog Food – we read the product description: “Grain-Free Beef & Vegetables in Gravy Canned Dog Food brings a delicious dose of flavor to your dog’s mealtime. This tasty, natural dog food has added vitamins, minerals and trace nutrients to keep your four-legged friend in peak health, with absolutely no grains…. Ingredients like egg, carrots and flaxseed contribute to overall health, boosting everything from eye health and muscle health to skin and coat health, plus so much more.” As many of you know, Saphera has been on a diet since last Spring (yes, nearly a year), when we realized that the only slim things about her were her legs and face…. In other words, after she shed her winter coat, she was still way too round. SO, Saphera was put on a diet – the vet suggested giving her a lot of veggies. Since she actually likes veggies, this wasn’t a major problem, but the reduced quantity was not something she appreciated… apparently, between meals, treats, table scraps and kids (not to mention Purrseidon) giving her tastes, she had been consuming about twice as much as a dog her size needs… and  for months, we thought it was fur…
Victor Super Premium Dog Food has a few veggies in it but not as many as I’d hoped. I 20170313_203040prefer more veggies but that is a matter of personal preference. It came out of the can pretty easily and smelled like people food. I would have preferred something made in the USA, but the vitamins, minerals and trace nutrients are good. And they obviously taste good, too… Purrseidon tried to sneak a bite but Saphera kept moving the bowl away. (As I previously mentioned, Purr was not happy, as she thought it was another review for her or that her sister would share.) 20170313_203114Unfortunately, since the diet began, Saphera does not share much. In fact, she licked her bowl completely clean so Puurrseidon did not even get a taste. 20170313_202944
Victor Super Premium Dog Food is healthy, which we love and nonfatten which we need. (Since she loved them so much we are making them a special meal, so I put some cans aside for picnics and puppy sitters.)

Grandma Lucy’s Macana

20170217_150935.jpg Grandma Lucy’s Macana is made in the USA by pet owners would love to give their furry friends  nutritious home cooked meals. The family-owned and operated company was created with the goal to take worrying about pet nutrition off the plate of their owners, so they offer a line of tasty and nutritious freeze-dried recipes that give pets nutrients plus flavor. (Their belief is that if they wouldn’t eat it, then neither should your pet. …. I admit that when I received this food, took a sniff and look, I wasn’t sure if I should feed it to the human portion of our family or the furkids.)

Ultimately, we tried all of them with Saphera, since the line is advertised for Woofies. (Purrseidon  insisted on trying them all too, though I don’t think either of the munchkins did, despite the fact that salmon in Master Munchkin’s favorite entree…. Nutritionally, I couldn’t see that the food would be bad for a kitty.) I can not say which Saphera preferred because she instantly gobbled everything. Purr purrfered the starters because they are fun balls and she likes to play with her food, then eat. To use Grandma Lucy’s Macana, you add water too and let sit for a few minutes…(this is best done on the counter with armed guards as mine would happily eat it dry and are impatient.)

We assumed we would just get a bag of freeze-dry food,  and the salmon came with the 20170217_145702cats meds, which we were also testing.  Then, a second box arrive with all sorts of samples of Grandma Lucy’s Macana products + a cute little red lei, which Purrseidon claimed. The food is perfect for on-the-go and when they feel cruddy.

We received a sample pack and a big bag of Freeze-dry beef, so gave Cricket, a good friend’s dog, who had just had jaw surgery the small sample of the beef.  I am pleased to report that Cricket had no problem eating it after her surgery (she is a picky table-scrap-dog whose mom was not sure what to feed her.) Unfortunately, I didn’t think to get photos.

We will buy more Grandma Lucy’s Macana because the furbabies like the favors and the food fits Saphera’s dietary requirements.

We love the coconut dog treats – they are like giant teddy graham’s. These foods definitely made the furbabies feel like they were in vacation somewhere tropical, even though they were in there own back yard. 20170217_145830
