Liebster Award: Getting To Know Me Better

I was nominated by Deziz World blog fur da Liebster Award. Thank you, Dezi, Raena and Audra, I am honored. As with everything in life, there are rules to follow:

Now, to the questions I need to answer:

1. Do you have interests that keep you busy, but that you don’t blog about?

Absolutely!

2. Be Honest: Do you read long posts from beginning to end? Or do you quickly skim through the post, scroll to the end and hit the Like button?

That depends on how hectic my schedule is. If I am interested in the topic and have the time, I take my time enjoying the blog, but sometimes, I need to ‘bookmark’ it to read later... there are also some blogs what I speed-read. 28b2addc669ea3ef79f7bff0cbe60309

3. Do you prefer to read the book or watch the movie?

Nine times out of ten, I think the book is better, so I mainly read books.

4. When making decisions, do you go by gut feeling or reason?

I rely on intuition, but will modify my reaction with reason/logic.

5. Do you still send hand-written letters or cards, or do you send emails and whatsapp?

Any letters I send are typed (trust me, the recipients are better off). Prior to moving aboard EvenStar and embarking on our sailing years, I discovered cyber cards, and once we left the USA, I learned to rely on them because foreign postal systems were difficult to find, very expensive, and in some situations, unreliable…. I haven’t sent a ‘snail-mail’ card in years.

6. If you could go on a time travel for the day, to where and when would you go?

I haven’t a clue, since I’m perfectly content when/where I am.

7. Do you know any poems by heart?

Do nursery rhymes count? unnamed-2

8. Which conspiracy theory do you like best or think is weirdest?

I tend to focus on facts, and don’t really follow conspiracy theories, but IMHO the current one about Russia hacking the election so Trump could win is silly…. and whoever designed this jpg is correct.

9. Imagine there’s suddenly no power for 3 months. Would you be prepared?

No problem. We lived aboard EvenStar, which didn’t have power, for years.

10. What’s your favorite Music and Movie Genre?

It is easier to say that I dislike Rap and Horror than to try and figure out what my favorites are, since those can change with my mood and/or the situation.

11. Are you a night owl or are you up with the lark?

Definitely an owl.

I got quite a chuckle out of this because I’m currently editing Me-YEOW!, which is written from the purrspective of Xander de Hunter, Catamondo’s version of 007… Xander lives aboard a sailboat and Me-YEOW! is dedicated to Spooky Pilch, a venerable house panther, who went over the Rainbow Bridge earlier this year.

1) What inspired you to start your blog

Originally, I intended it to be an author’s blog, but I quickly realized that my posts were about the information I discovered during research for characters, backgrounds and situations in my novels. At first, the topics were divided between healing herbs for Nimri (Kazza’s trilogy), who is an herbal healer, and cats (Kazza is a magical, alien tiger). Then, as I began the Sea Purrtector Series, the posts began to lean toward pet care and humor – as soon as the election is over, I plan to resume those. For now, I feel the best way to protect US pets is to tell the stories that our biased media seems to be avoiding. That said, I still share ‘Humpday Humor’ (usually about birds) on Wednesday; ‘Saturday Snickers’ on Saturday (cats) and ‘Canine Comedy’ (dogs) on Sunday.

2) What was your dream of life as a teen

As a teen, I wanted to become an architect, but my father was insistent that I go to a faith-based college and Calvin College didn’t offer that type of degree. Thus, I majored in English and became a technical writer, then later an author.

3) Do you have any regrets

No. By the time my husband and I chose to have children, I was able to freelance from home. IMHO, having an at-home parent is extremely important for the future of humanity and I’m not sure if I could have designed buildings from home.

What is your most vivid memory of childhood, good or bad?When my I was 6, my mother was diagnosed with cancer – I spent the next 3 years watching the illness and treatments take a bit of her away.
Do you have any pets?I claim 3 fur-babies: Mr. M a geriatric tuxedo cat, Ms. Purrseidon, a kitten who was meant to be Mr. M’s companion (but her water obsession horrifies him); Saphera, a puppy, who was found running by the interstate.
Who is your favorite comedian / comedienne?Jeff Dunham
Mountains or seaside?Tough one! I’ve lived both places and loved both…. this is embarrassing to admit, but Ms. Purrseidon likes water better than I do. So, I think I liked the mountains just a little bit better.
What book / books made a lasting impression on you?I read Gone With the Wind in 3rd grade and fell in love with the written word, so that was the first, but there have been many others since then.
Do you have a room with a view?At the moment, no, but I do have a very cluttered office.
Are you politically inclined? (no pressure here, needn’t answer)Not really. IMHO, less is better, so I would love to see the government overhauled and streamlined to cut out waste of money. I don’t see that happening, soon, do you?
Any causes you support or believe in?Education.
What really pisses you off?Many times, I feel the news reports, which sensationalize certain crimes and issues, make the situation worse because too many want ‘their 15 seconds of fame’.
What makes you smile?Kindness, silliness, as long as it isn’t mean-spirited.
Why did you start blogging?I wanted to counter-balance all the negativity I see in the news. I know my little blog isn’t much, but hope that I make someone smile.
