Pet Arthritis

I was shocked to learn that 1 in 5 doges over the age of 7 as well as 90% of geriatric cats suffers from arthritis. Mr. M rarely graces this blog because he is one of the 90% and he suffers with arthritic paws. Fortunately, many of his issues have been relieved since he has been using Milo’s Meow Mix, which is one of Cat-a-bliss catnip blends, I don’t think this option is available for all pets (to the best of my knowledge, Cat-a-bliss only ships to addresses in the US), and let’s face it, dogs don’t go ga-ga over ‘nip. So, when I discovered these two info-graphics on Pinterest, I thought the information regarding symptoms, the joint damage and medical options might be useful to you.

    1. I thought that was mainly for horses, though I also know there is a type for humans, though I don’t know what the difference might be. Probably amount of dose, since horses are obviously a lot larger than humans. Can cats take a small dose of the human type?

      1. Yes. In fact I just gave a sample to my co-worker yesterday for her 16-year-old cat that has arthritis in her hips. She has tried everything and this should help. For an eight pound cat it is a teaspoon and a half for one two weeks daily and then one teaspoon a day after that. If you would like to try some let me know. We can get you a sample. It’s good stuff!!!

      2. Amazon carries it – already have mine, but thanks for the tip – I wouldn’t have known to look for it without you… I am now wondering if I could convince Mr. M to try this… he can be quite resistant to medicine….

      3. We actually sell it on Amazon through Nature’s Tails. I think he won’t resist. I used it with my picky 17-year-old on his food and he never turned up his nose. Which was amazing! Let me know how it turns out!

      4. Will do. Mr. M has arthritic paws + he has chronic urinary issues – the old guy does not like to drink enough fluids and I can’t help but think a lot of his health issues could be due to dehydration. While he is sweet, lovable, loyal and charming, M is also very stubborn. Thankfully he loves Kiara’s Cat-a-bliss blends and they seem to help him.

      6. He’s same old – same old, but that means he is moving better than he was a year ago, prior to becoming a ‘nip blend tester…. I never, ever imagined I would turn into a ‘nip connoisseur for my cat!

      10. Very true. I never expected that catnip blends would help dear Mr. M with his issues. Of course, for years, I never realized that pot might have any medicinal benefits, either. Science is strange.

  4. Our cat, Gretel had become obese and arthritic in her elder years, but even though she kind of galumphed from one place to another, she could get up on the furniture till she was almost 18. And she had the sweetest temperament of any cat I’ve ever known, right till the end, when she passed away in my lap. ❤
